   The origins of the mythical phoenix have been attributed to both the ancient Egyptian and classical Greek periods. It is an enduring symbol that to this day is closely associated with renewal and immortality in many cultures worldwide.

The phoenix is traditionally described as an eagle-like bird with scarlet and gold plumage. Just one phoenix is said to have existed at a time, each living for period of not less than 500 years. Towards the end of this time, the phoenix built a nest that would become its own funeral pyre. After being consumed by flames, a new phoenix miraculously sprang from its predecessor’s ashes.

In Christian belief the phoenix became a symbol of resurrection.

The coin portrays a vividly coloured image of a phoenix in flight. The bird is swooping in front of a gothic tower featuring a stained-glassed window in colour. The coin’s obverse portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Also included is the coin’s weight, purity, monetary denomination and year-date.

This coin has been individually ‘antiqued’ to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin in the mintage may vary.

Each coin is housed in a classic display case within an illustrated shipper and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
