The Queen’s Beasts Collection is a coin program struck to honor Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II who became the world’s longest-reigning monarch in 2016. The program debuted that same year with captivating designs of the heraldic statues that “stood guard” over Her Majesty’s coronation in 1953. Each coin was struck in gold, silver, and platinum. This year contains the final release: the White Greyhound of Richmond. This specific animal stands to showcase the merger between the rival houses of York and Lancaster. Several monarchs used this badge including Henry IV and Henry VII after John of Gaunt invented it. The rose itself represents the blending of the two houses, beneath the Royal Crown. The White Greyhound dog was picked as the official mascot for this Coat of Arms due to its popularity at the time in Northern England.
The obverse of the White Greyhound coin bears the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with her royal diadem and matching earrings. Inscriptions include the face value, her name, and "D.G. REG F. D." which means "By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith" in Latin.
The reverse of this coin showcases a regal White Greyhound dog standing on its hind legs with its front paws over a shield. The shield carries the image of the Tudor Rose, and the Royal Crown sits on top of the flower.
